As the age of our infrastructure increases, non-destructive evaluation becomes more and more important. Eddy current methods have been utilized for more than 100 years as a means for detecting and characterizing materials, objects and other physical phenomena. Eddy current phenomena and applications are reviewed for NDT industry generally and examples for infrastructure presented. The remote field eddy current/transformer coupling (RFEC/TC) is presented as the technique to meet the NDE inspection needs of pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe.  The method has been used successfully to detect pre-stressing wire failures in PCCP.  This paper explains the technology and presents recent test results and field applications.  Case examples describe the inspection experience with several pipeline owners.
